Environmental Policy

Peak Iron recognises that environmental management is a critical component of our business operations and an important issue for the communities in which we operate. Peak Iron is conscious of its responsibilities to continually improve its environment.


Code of Conduct

The purpose of this Code of Conduct (the Code) is to set out the standards of behaviour expected of those employed by or working in or for Peak Iron. The Code affirms Peak Iron’s expectation of social and ethical behaviour from all of its employees and External Personnel.

Peculiar Knob Program for Environment Protection and Rehabilitation 

This document is the Program for Environment Protection and Rehabilitation (MPEPR 2020/017) for the Peculiar Knob (PK) Mine for Mining Leases ML6314 and ML6442 and Miscellaneous Purposes licences MPL125–MPL134, MPL141 and MPL147.

This PEPR updates and supersedes MPEPR 2019/030 which was approved by the Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) on 27 February 2020.

The approved PEPR has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Ministerial Determination 05 dated 12 July 2012, “Minimum information required to be provided in a program for environment protection and rehabilitation (PEPR) for a mineral lease and any associated miscellaneous purposes licence for metallic and industrial minerals (excluding extractive minerals, coal and uranium).

Peculiar Knob Feral Animal Control Programme

The Feral Animal Control Programme is a requirement of Condition 7 (Offsets) of the Decision Notice 2014-7154made under sections 130(1) and 133 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBCAct). The programme must be applied to a minimum area of 400 ha within the Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia (IBRA) Baltana sub-region (Stony Plains STP-07). Implementation of the programme must commence prior to any vegetation clearance of the Peculiar Knob Iron Ore Project expansion area and remain in place until the expansion area has been rehabilitated in accordance with Condition 3 (Habitat Rehabilitation) of Decision Notice 2014-7154.

Central Iron Pty Ltd, (100% owned by Peak Iron is the operator of the Buzzard Iron Ore Project with the mine located 118 km south-south-east of Coober Pedy.

This Program for Environment Protection and Rehabilitation (PEPR) has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of determined Terms of Reference 005, Metallic and Industrial Mineral PEPRs.
